Tahquitz Canyon Waterfall

The Tahquitz Canyon Trail is a 1.8-mile loop along a creek that leads to a beautiful 60-foot seasonal waterfall.  The creek originates on the east slope of Mount San Jacinto near Palm Springs, then flows into Tahquitz Canyon.

It’s a strenuous hike with a 350-foot elevation gain, and no shaded areas. There are plenty of stairs and rocks to navigate, so wear sturdy shoes and bring lots of water.

The Tahquitz Canyon Trail is located a short distance from Palm Springs downtown, on the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation.

The hike starts at the Visitor Center, where an entrance fee is required.  You can also pick up maps and gifts there, and there’s a small theater.

It’s highly recommended you book a ranger led interpretive hike (2.5 hours) that departs from the Visitor Center. This will provide a more in-depth overview of the flora, fauna and cultural history.

  • Fees:  Pay an entrance fee at the Visitor Center.
  • Hours:  Check opening hours (only open on weekends in the summer, due to the heat).
  • Water: It’s required that you bring water.
