Forever Marilyn Statue

The 26-foot Forever Marilyn statue is in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, near the Palm Springs Art Museum.

It was created in 2011 as a temporary exhibit, and designed by Seward Johnson. It became so popular with tourists, that it now occupies a permanent position outside the Palm Springs Art Museum.

The statue is based on the “The Seven Year Itch” movie (1955) where Marilyn’s skirt billows up from a rush of air from a NY subway grate.

The statue has been displayed all over the world, including Chicago’s Miracle Mile (2011), Palm Springs (2012-2014), New Jersey (2015), Bendigo, Australia (2016), Stamford, Connecticut (2018), then back to Palm Springs on Museum Way (2021 to 2025).

In March 2025, the controversial statue was moved 100 feet away to Downtown Park, Palm Springs, due to litigation.
