Take your kids to a magical forest near Portland Oregon.

The Enchanted Forest is 1-hour south of Portland Oregon, near Salem.

This family run theme park is in a magical setting on a forested hillside, with fun rides, nursery rhyme characters along Storybook Lane, a medieval European town, Old Western town, live theater, restaurants and more.  

Many of the attractions at the Enchanted Forest were handbuilt by the original owner in the 1960's and 70's, and two generations later the theme park is still in the same family.

10 best things to do at the Enchanted Forest.

1.  Stroll along Storybook Lane.

Stroll along Storybook Lane at the Enchanted Forest, to see nursery rhyme and fairytale characters. 

Kids can take a slide down the Old Woman in a Shoe, walk inside Hansel and Gretel's gingerbread house, crawl inside Alice in Wonderland's rabbit hole, and step inside the evil witch's mouth from Snow White.  There are also fun sculptures of Humpty Dumpty, Hansel and Gretel, the Madhatter, and Peter Pumpkin Eater at the Enchanted Forest.

This mural is at the start of Storybook Lane, and gives a preview of some of the exciting characters along the forested trail.

The Enchanted Forest founder is Roger Taft. He explains, "I began designing and building my dream in 1964, opened to the public in 1971, and am still creating new dreams today with my family."

4. Take a thrilling ride at the Enchanted Forest.

Walk to the top of the hill at the Enchanted Forest, for thrilling rides like a log ride, rollercoaster and bumper cars. The Big Timber Log Ride floats through a log mill then drops 40-feet down a flume to a splash pool!  The Ice Mountain Bobsled rollercoaster has plenty of twists and turns, and the Speedway bumper cars are a big hit.

5. Visit a medieval European Village.

Stroll through the Old European Village at the Enchanted Forest for loads of fun. 

Start with the impressive Fantasy Fountains water light show, then take a ride through a swamp on the Challenge of Mondor to fire at dragons and win points.  There's also a festive hall with an Irish music band.

Look up at all the townsfolk watching you from the Old European Village at the Enchanted Forest.

6. See the Fantasy Fountains Water Light Show, where 359 water jets are choreographed to music. 

The show runs every 15 minutes, so there's no risk of missing it, and snacks are available to fill hungry bellies.

7. Experience Tofteville Western Town.

The Tofteville Western Town is a fantastic recreation of an Old Western Town, with a haunted house, shooting gallery, and gold panning for the kids.

The Haunted House (tickets on the right) delivers big on the fright factor.

Try your luck at the Shooting Gallery.  The shopfronts of this western town have been faithfully recreated, with raised wooden platforms, and an old style saloon.

Play with the remote control boats in a lake at the top of the hill.

8.  Have a few laughs at the Comedy Theater at the Enchanted Forest.

The outdoor Comedy Theater is great for a few laughs, with high quality musical productions based on fairytales and nursery rhymes. 

9.  Check out the rides for little kids.

The Enchanted Forest has lots of rides to keep the littlest kids amused.  There's a carousel, kiddy frog hopper that bounces up and down, and kiddy bumper boats.  The Tiny Tune Train takes kids past the Three Little Pigs and Pinocchio.  

10.  Eat a yummy meal at the Enchanted Forest restaurants.

Stop by the restaurant, grill, ice-cream parlor, coffee shop and snack bar.  Picnics are also welcome.

Cool attractions near the Enchanted Forest.

The Willamette Valley Vineyards is just adjacent to the theme park.  It has glorious views, an outdoor patio, wine tastings, and a gift shop.  Salem is only a few minutes from this theme park and has an excellent children's museum and two historic homes to tour.   

Travel 30 minutes east to Silver Falls with a trail that passes ten stunning waterfalls, and a new nature play area for kids.
