Wineries on Whidbey Island

Whidbey Island has a great selection of wineries, many in enchanting, rural settings. There's also an award winning distillery, meadery and brewery.

15-mile driving tour 

Most of these wineries (and a meadery, distillery and brewery) are clustered together along a scenic 15-mile drive in South Whidbey Island, just off the main highway. The nearest towns are Langley and Freeland.

#1. Comforts of Whidbey Winery (Langley)

Start at the Comforts of Whidbey winery just outside Langley, run by a husband and wife team who opened it in 2016.  The wine is sourced from 6,000 grapevines located right on the property.  The sleek, modern tasting room has views of Puget Sound, and flows outside to a lovely patio area for warmer days.  There's also an AirBnB upstairs, and a beautiful event space.  Check hours.

#2.  Spoiled Dog Winery (Langley)   

Spoiled Dog Winery was founded in 2003 by another husband and wife team, and is a must-see Whidbey Island winery just 8 minutes drive from Langley. It has a picturesque setting on a forested slope with rolling vineyards, and plenty of heated, outdoor seating areas. The main barn serves as the tasting room, and has an old world atmosphere with barrels stacked high. Check hours.

#3.  Whidbey Island Distillery (Langley)

The hugely successful Whidbey Island Distillery is one of the most popular destinations on Whidbey Island, with a top rated Blackberry Liqueur ranked amongst the best in the world.  It's on a 9-acre property just a short drive north of Langley. The tasting room is located inside a bunker, that was actually intended as the basement for an unfinished house.  There's also seating outside on the patio overlooking a field. #4. Hierophant Meadery (Freeland)

Hierophant Meadery is off highway 525, with a large tasting room and patio outside. Sample the botanically infused mead (honey wine), eldeberry syrup and teas, and browse the great gift selection. Check hours.

#5.  Dancing Fish Vineyards (Freeland)

Dancing Fish Vineyards has a beautiful, rural setting on a hillside fringed with grapevines. The small tasting room is directly adjacent to an outdoor patio, with firepits for cooler days. This leads to an attractive, grassed area with plenty of adirondack chairs and lawn games. The red barn further up the hill is a popular location for special events like weddings. Check hours.

#6.  Blooms Winery on Whidbey (Freeland)

Blooms Winery is located in Freeland on Whidbey Island, and has both an elegant bistro and tasting room. On warmer days you can sit outside on the patio to enjoy a tasting, or lunch or dinner. Check hours.  

#7.  Penn Cove Brewing Company (Freeland)

Penn Cove Brewing is one of the best places to visit on a summer's day in Whidbey Island, and is the island's largest brewery. It has a fun, festive atmosphere, with a fabulous hilltop taproom in Freeland, surrounded by an open, grassed area with chairs and tables.  You can also enjoy a meal here from the convenient food truck directly outside the taproom. Check hours.

#8.  Holmes Harbor Cellars  (Greenbank)

Holmes Harbor Cellars is on a hilltop in Greenbank, with soaring views of Holmes Harbor. The tasting room is inside an Italianate-style building, that leads to a shaded patio, and a lawn with lots of chairs and fun igloos to savor the incredible views across the vines.  Check hours.
