The red barn at Greenbank Farm is one of Whidbey Island’s most prominent landmarks, situated on a hillside with distant views of Admiralty Inlet. Greenbank Farm is located at the midpoint of the island, 11-miles south of Coupeville.

History: The 522-acre Greenbank Farm started out as a dairy farm in 1904, then became America's largest loganberry producer in the 1950s.

In 1997 it was under threat of being developed into a residential subdivision, and was therefore acquired by a consortium that protected the farm, including the Port of Coupeville, Island County and Nature Conservancy.

Things to Do: Today, there's lots to do at Greenbank Farm. The stunning Greenbank Gardens are managed by the Washington State Master Gardeners. Follow a secluded trail through lush gardens, over bridges and along a creek, to see a variety of plantings. The best time to see the gardens is in spring, when it’s ablaze with brilliant wildflowers.

Explore 7-miles of trails along the open meadow and forest behind Greenbank Farm. There are four different trails to choose from, including the Ridge, Forest, Highway and Meadow Trail (see trail map). Enjoy incredible views of the snowcapped Cascade and Olympic Mountains along these trails.

7. Off-leash meadow

Take your dog to the off-leash meadow behind the Greenbank Farm.

Dogs are free to roam off-leash on the hillside meadow (owned by the Port of Coupeville), but must be on-leash if taken along the forest trail at the top of the hill (owned by Island County).

Greenbank Farm has some fantastic bird spotting opportunities. The beautiful gardens have viewing platforms in a wetlands area and bird observation area. See eagles, swallows, herons, common yellowthroats, red-tailed hawks and northern harriers.
