Snohomish

Snohomish is a charming riverfront town, one hour north of Seattle.

It has a vibrant, historic district full of restaurants, cafes, brewpubs and homeware stores, mainly concentrated along First Avenue.  

In 1973 a 26-block area of Snohomish was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the historic Blackman House (1878) that is open for tours.

Snohomish was founded in 1859, and started out as a farming town. Logging soon flourished in the 1870s, with workers arriving along the Snohomish River to work in the mills. This was followed by a profitable canning industry, sourcing fruits grown in the rich soil of the Snohomish Valley.

There are also some fun attractions near town, including the Snohomish Aquatic Center, the fall festival at Stocker Farms, and Haywire Brewing at Dairyland.

1. First Street restaurants

Choose from a wide selection of restaurants in the historic district of Snohomish.

The Repp serves northwest cuisine and cocktails in a vintage building from the 1890s that once housed the Princess Theater. 

Andy's Fish House is also along First Avenue in Snohomish, and has alfresco dining.

2. Dining with a river view

Todo Mexico has some of the best views in town, with a large deck overlooking the Snohomish River, and plenty of shade from umbrellas.

3. Spada Farmhouse Brewery

Snohomish is full of breweries, and one of the most popular is Spada Farmhouse Brewery on First Street. It has a full bar and kitchen, and craft beer brewed on-site.

4. The Rainier Room Cocktail Bar

The Rainier Room Cocktail Bar is a sophisticated space, and is part of Spada Farmhouse Brewery.  Enjoy craft cocktails and delicious appetizers in this 21+ only bar.

5. Shopping

Many visitors take a day trip up to Snohomish just to shop, and there are an abundance of beautifully curated gift, antique and homewares stores. 6. Looking Glass Coffee

Looking Glass Coffee oozes ambiance, and is inside the historic Eagles Hall Building (1910) on First Street. It's a community gathering place with lots of live events, and also a great place to shop for unique gifts.

9. Reserve the Carnegie

The prominent Carnegie Building (1910) once served as the library in Snohomish.  Today you can rent it out as an events space (reserve).

10. Snohomish Riverfront

Wander down to the Snohomish riverfront path to imagine a busier era, full of steamships and commerce. Take the 0.3 mile path from Cady Park to Kla Ha Ya Park.

11. Blackman Museum

Tour the two story Blackman House (1878) on B Street, owned by the prominent Blackman family who ran a local mill. The three Blackman brothers and their families made the dangerous journey from Maine to the Pacific Northwest, by traveling around Cape Horn. The piano in the living room amazingly survived in-tact on this trip (check museum hours).

12. Stocker Farms

The Snohomish Valley is full of farms, and one of the most popular is Stocker Farms, just 5 minutes southwest of Snohomish.  This is a 3rd generation family farm, established in 1919. Their biggest event is the Fall Festival, with a pumpkin page, corn maze, hay rides, pumpkin cannons, zipline, jumping pillows and so much more! There's even a beer garden for parents (check hours).

13. Haywire Brewing at Dairyland 

Dairyland  is 5 minutes south of Snohomish, at the site of an old dairy. It has an onsite brewery (Haywire Brewing Co.), distillery (21+), and events area popular for weddings. Don't forget to visit their Christmas Market and Christmas Tree Farm during the holiday season. 

14. Snohomish Aquatic Center

The amazing 52,000 square foot Snohomish Aquatic Center opened in 2014, and is 3 minutes drive northeast of Snohomish.  It has a water park with a waterslide, lazy river, splash pad and zero entry pool for little kids, and an olympic sized swimming pool, recreation pool, and dive pool.  There's also a flowrider surf machine!  Check hours.
