Sunset Beach is the largest of the two beaches at Lake Sammamish State Park, located on Seattle’s Eastside.
This beautiful beach is a sand/pebble mix, and is a popular swimming beach in summer (but no lifeguards). Bring an umbrella and beach toys, and enjoy a day looking out over the sparkling waters of Lake Sammamish.
There’s also a seasonal kiosk directly behind Sunset Beach, serving snacks, ice-cream and drinks. This is part of a modern complex that also houses restrooms and change rooms.
One of the best parts of Sunset Beach is the incredible 10,000 square foot adventure playground directly behind it!
A Discover Pass is required to visit Lake Sammamish State Park.

5 best things to do at Sunset Beach
1. Beach
Spend a glorious summer’s day at Sunset Beach, swimming in the roped off areas, or sunbathing on the shoreline. Please note, there are no lifeguards.
Sunset Beach has a large expanse of sand that leads to a change room and restroom area.
2. Sunset Beach Café
The café is directly behind the beach, with a sheltered area with picnic tables. Load up on snacks, drinks and ice-cream.
3. Playground
The best playground at Lake Sammamish State Park is directly behind Sunset Beach. This 10,000 square foot playground has a zip-line, slides, swings, and climbing structures. It was opened in 2016, and designed for kids aged 2 to 12.
4. Trails
Explore miles of biking and hiking trails at Lake Sammamish State Park, including a short boardwalk trail that starts north of Sunset Beach, and ends at a small, sandy beach overlooking Lake Sammamish and Otel Island.
5. Picnics
Choose from plenty of picnic tables in the large grassed area behind Sunset Beach.
